Woodsia
Small ferns usually growing among rocks. Rhizomes shortly creeping, scaly; leaves in tufts; stipes with joints about a third of the way up (in British species); 1-2 pinnate; sori round with indusium divided into hair-like or scale-like segments.

About 25 species in boreal, temperate or mountainous regions, mostly in the Northern Hemisphere. Two species in Britain.
