Rhizomes long, creeping; fronds arise individually in two rows; fronds pinnatisect to 1-pinnate, rarely more; pinnae continuous with rhachis; sori large round to oval, in rows on either side of midrib, no indusium.

About 125 species around the world, the majority in tropical America. Three species in Britain and Ireland.
